Halloween Opening vs. Amelie Opening

This is our comparison between two opening scenes from completely different genres. This has helped us to look into different genres more and think about what each type of genre uses in the opening sequence. This will also help us to decide what genre we would like to use for our own film opening.

Opening Credits Research

We explored the opening credits of several different films completely contrasting in genre. We did this to find out the order of credits, what credits are included and how they are presented so that we can use this research on our own film opening.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo:                          Monsters Inc:
- Production Company                                            -Production Company
- Second Production Company                               -Second Production Company
-Director                                                                 -Third Production Company
-Main actors                                                           - Title (1:17)
- Title (0:21)
- Other actors

Catch Me If You Can:                                               The Notebook

-Production Company                                             -Main Actors
- Second Production Company                                -Title (0:29)
- Third Production Company                                     - Other Actors
- Director                                                                -Casting, Costume Design
- Main Actors                                                         - Editing
- Title (0:44)
-Other Actors

Pulp Fiction:

-Production Company
-Second Production Company
-Third Production Company
-Director
-Title (0:23)
-Main actors

The research suggests that, although these films differ in genre, they are similar in the opening credits. Usually the film opens with two or more production companies and then introduces the director, the main actor or actor's are the next to feature and then after around 20-40 seconds the actual film title is revealed.

Gender Representation in the Media

This presentation explores the ways in which gender is represented in the media. We have discovered through it, that gender is portrayed in various stereotypical ways, for example women are seen as passive and men are dominant, however this should not be generalised.

We have also created some other paper resources which show ways in which gender is represented in the media below.

This poster analysis explains the stereotypical ways in which the male model has been represented.

Facebook Page

Here is a print screen of our Facebook page to promote our production company. We have included the logo as our visual image and will post regularly to keep our followers up to date with our progress regarding our film opening. We chose Facebook as one of our social networking sites to promote our work as it is extremely popular worldwide and now has a slightly older target audience.

Prelim - I don't even teach history

This is my groups preliminary task, working towards a better understanding of continuity. This was our first experience of using the cameras and editing our shots together, which allowed us to get a good understanding on how it works. We now understand the importance of good continuity between the shots and clear rules, for example the 180 degree rule. We used various different camera shots, including a group of over the shoulder shots. The lighting in our short film was all natural lighting, as it creates the feel of reality. What we have learnt from this task, and would improve on next time, is to remember to over-shoot (film lots before we edit) so we don't have to re-film anything whilst we are editing.
