Foley Sound
Foley sound is the term used for sound effects added during the post production of a film. Common examples of these are footsteps, crashes, doors slamming of creeping etc... Foley sound gives more control over the quality, volume and timing of the sound effects allowing the movie to sound more realistic and professional.
Foley sound is normally performed by a Foley artist, this person will stand in a post production room with a variety of props and a TV screen in front of them playing the film clip. As the clip runs the Foley artist uses the props in front of them to replicate the sounds associated with the actions on screen.
Films are normally filmed with the sound recorder only picking up the dialogue so that a Foley artist will be able to add in the other sounds afterwards. Almost all films use Foley sound in order to prevent them from sounding hollow and empty.
In our film opening we will be adding Foley sound, some sounds we wish to include are plate smashing, footsteps, door slamming, lighter flicking, shouting etc...
